RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Tuesday Lexington High School junior Liam Cotter and senior Joe Tibbles represented The Minutemen at annual indoor Pentathlon. In an event that truly showcases the best athletes in Massachusetts track & field, competitors are tested in the 55m High Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and 1000m run. Unfortunately for Tibbles and injury during the Long Jump forced him to cease competition, which left Cotter to carry the flag for The Minutemen; he did not disappoint.
After the 55m Hurdles, Cotter's time of 8.35 seconds had put him in 17th place overall with 760 points. Next up was the High Jump, where athletes where only allowed six total attempts at the bar. Cotter was able to nail each one of his six attempts and finish with a personal best height of 5'1.75", which earned him 441 points in the event. In the Long Jump the LHS junior made a leap of 18'7.25", nearly matching his season best and earning him another 516 points in the process. In what was easily his weakest event going into the event - the Shot Put - Cotter was able to launch a throw which bested his previous personal record by over three feet. His throw of 29'2.25" scored him another 421 points. The final event of the competition proved to best Cotter's best event compared to the field. He finished the 1000m in 2:56.65, a time that was 11th best on the day and earned him 697 points. All totaled Cotter finished with 2835 points, which not only was over a 600 point improvement on his personal best but placed him 14th overall and fifth among underclassmen.
