Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Saturday The Minutemen were at the Reggie Lewis Center for the annual relay meet. This is the only meet during the winter where every individual whether on the track or in the field competes in a relay format. As a result, it is a true test of a team's depth and it allows those who are not at the top of the depth chart the opportunity to score points towards the team title. In the end Lexington showed well with the girls team coming in eighth place out of 20 teams, while the boys finished seventh out of a scoring field of 22.
The girls saw their best finish come in record breaking fashion. The "Bomb Squad" that is Lexington's Shot Put trio of Junior Chrisondra Awomah, senior captain Janna Lee, and freshman Beryl Awomah combined to throw a distance of 95'1.50". This distance bested the previous school record - set in 2015 by Ellery Plansky, Rebecca Anderson, and JakiyaTaylor - by nearly three feet.
For the boys their top finish of the meet came in the first event on the oval, the 4x800m relay. The team of juniors Josh and Selvin Backert, Andrew McGovern, and senior captain Eli Gappelberg started off in the middle of the pack before charging to the lead in the second and third legs. When Selvin Backert handed off to McGovern, The Minutemen had a sizable lead that would not be relinquished. McGovern crossed the line in an unofficial split of 1:58.3 to take the victory for Lexington in 8:09.93. That time is the fastest time run in the Massachusetts this year.
