New York, NY - This past weekend five members of the Lexington High School team traveled down to NYC to compete at Nationals. Things got started for The Minutemen on Friday when senior captain Kazu Uda-Thach finished 32nd (22.62 seconds) in the Emerging Elite division of the 200m. Saturday Uda-Thach was back on the track along with fellow classmates Riley Walsh, Alex Hiser and Eli Gappelberg in the Champion division of the 1600m Sprint Medley Relay. Walsh and Hiser averaged 23.4 seconds on their 200m legs before handing off to Uda-Thach, who's 50.51 second split was a huge personal best for the 400m leg. Gappelberg would then bring the team home in 2:02.06 for a final time of 3:39.40, and a 26th place finish.
After two days of competition all that was left for The Minutemen was their lone field event competitor, junior Michael Gupta who was competing in the Championship division of the 25lb. Weight Throw. On his first throw, Gupta put the Weight out a modest 59'7.5" but as he has done all season he only got better as the competition went on. His second throw made it 60'3", and his final throw ended up flying 61'10.5" landing Gupta in 26th place overall. Despite not having his best day at Nationals, Gupta's personal record of 63'4" from the New England Weight Throw Championships was the 35th farthest throw made anywhere in the country this season, and sixth among juniors. Considering that he only has been competing in the event for a little over a year it is safe to say the future looks bright for the LHS standout. As Spring approaches and The Minutemen turn to the page to Outdoor Track, Gupta he will be trading in his Weight for the Hammer in the hopes of another stellar season in the throwing circle.
