The Armory - New York, NY
RESULTS
NEW YORK, NY - This past weekend a select group of Lexington High School athletes traveled down to New York City to compete at the annual New Balance Games. The meet features some of the top talent from the northeast and is held at a track aptly dubbed "the fastest track in the world."
For The Minutemen, The Armory certainly lived up to its billing by helping to propel multiple athletes to personal bests. Lexington's lone female athlete who traveled to New York, junior Rachel Caldwell-Glixon ran a huge personal best time of 9.24 seconds in the 55m High Hurdles. Her performance placed her tenth overall. Caldwell-Glixon would return later in the meet to compete in the High Jump. Her leap of 5'0" was good enough for the bronze medal.
On the boys side it was junior Michael Gupta who had the best finish for The Minutemen. After qualifying for the Weight Throw finals on his first throw, Gupta truly saved his best for last. When he stepped into the ring for his third and final throw of the finals, Gupta launched the 25 pound weight 59'2.75". That throw improved on his MA #1 performance in the event, and earned him the silver medal. In addition to Gupta, senior captain Kazu Uda-Thach earned a medal of his own in the 300m. Running a personal best time of 35.50 seconds, placing third in the process. Also competing for Lexington was the Distance Medley Relay of Selvin Backert, Josh Backert, Andrew McGovern and Eli Gappelberg. The team finished 13th.
Up Next
Lexington heads to Woburn on Monday to compete in the third junior varsity meet of the season. The meet - at the Daniel Joyce Middle School - begins at noon.
