Meet Information
USATF New England Indoor Track & Field Championships
February 17, 2019
Harvard University - Cambridge, MA
RESULTS
CAMBRIDGE, MA - On Sunday a group of Lexington's athletes headed to the Gordon Indoor Track on the campus of Harvard to compete against some of the best youth, collegiate and post collegiate athletes in New England. While there was no team title on the line, the meet offered athletes an opportunity to see how they measured up to competitors of all ages.
Without question junior Michael Gupta's performance in the 25lb. Weight Throw stole the show for LHS. During his brief time competing in the event Gupta has made a habit of saving his best for last and Sunday's performance was no different as he launched his sixth and final throw an impressive 62'4", besting his previous personal record and MA #1 distance by nearly three feet. Along with placing him second in the meet, Gupta's throw ranks him US #33 (sixth among juniors) and qualified him for New Balance Indoor Nationals in two weeks.
Along with Gupta, multi event specialist junior Rachel Caldwell-Glixon used the meet as a final tune up for the pentathlon in ten days, competing in both the 60m High Hurdles and the High Jump. While Massachusetts high school athletes compete in the 55m High Hurdles, on a national stage the 60m hurdles are the event competed thus it was Caldwell-Glixon's first run at the slightly longer distance. The change in distance did not phase Caldwell-Glixon as she burst across the line in 9.62 seconds - a time that converts to a personal best in the 55m hurdles - winning the bronze medal. After the hurdles Caldwell-Glixon headed over to the High Jump where she placed fourth with a leap of 1.50 meters (4'11").
Up Next
Gupta will be back at Reggie Lewis on Wednesday at 11:15am for the 9th Massachusetts Scholastic Weight Throw Invitational, while the rest of The Minutemen return to Boston on Saturday for the MIAA Auerbach All-State Championships.
