THE MINUTEMEN COMPETE AT WINTER FEST
Meet Information
MSTCA Winter Festival
December 15, 2018
Reggie Lewis Center - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Saturday The Minutemen had their first chance to run on the storied 200m oval inside the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury. While the Winter Festival is not a scored meet, it offers athletes the chance to make their mark on the young season. The Minutemen seized the opportunity on both the boys and girls side.
For the girls it was freshmen Carolyn Lane who started off the meet in style. In only her second time running the 55 meter High Hurdles Lane ran a big personal best time of 9.82 seconds in the prelims, which qualified her eighth in the finals and was the fastest time run for The Minutemen so far this season. In addition to Lane's breakout performance, star junior Rachel Caldwell-Glixon showed that she is ready to go this winter. In what is a rarity for the multi-event specialist, Caldwell-Glixon only competed in the one event but she made it count with a Division 1 qualifying jump of 5'2" that placed her fifth in a very strong High Jump field. Along with the stellar individual performances Lexington's relays brought their 'A' game. The 4x400m relay of freshmen Elana Sabin, sophomores Aylin Bruce and Sunny Tang, and junior Lily Sheth combined to run a season best time of 4:23.48 and finished fifth in the process. Not to be outdone, the 4x800m relay of junior Danna Ofek, sophomore Lina Jafaar, senior captain Kesinia Sortor, and junior Pauline Steines won their event in a Division 1 qualifying time of 10:06.06.
The boys were highlighted by another strong performance from senior captain Alex Hiser. After winning his season opener in the 55 meter Dash in 6.90 seconds, Hiser stepped up his game today by running a Division 1 qualifying time of 6.73 seconds, good for sixth in a deep field. The Minutemen also shined in the field events. In the Shot Put, junior Michael Gupta took home fourth with a personal best toss of 44'6". Fellow junior Yanni Zavaligakos threw a season best 42'8.5" finishing eighth. Sophomore Jaret Dlugy turned in a personal best of his own, with a throw of 39'7". In addition to the LHS "Bomb Squad," The Minutemen had a strong day in the High Jump. Junior Brandon Wilkins finished 10th with a season best jump of 5'8", while junior Andrew McGovern (5'6") and freshmen Evan Eberle (5'4") both turned in the best jumps of their high school careers.
