WESTON, MA - On the Boys side, the Middlesex League Championships were a really just a rematch of what was tightly contested dual meet earlier this season, between The Minutemen and the Tanners of Woburn. The Minutemen held the lead for much of the meet. But after a late surge that included Woburn scoring 29 points by taking the top four spots in the 110 meter High Hurdles, The Minutemen trailed by 4.5 points heading into the final event of the meet, and they no longer controlled their own destiny. The Minutemen's hopes were on the shoulders of the 4x400 meter relay team of junior Joe Tibbles, sophomore Andrew McGovern, and seniors Lucas Honohan and Thomas Lingard to try to make up the point difference with a little help from the other teams. In the end, The Minutemen turned in their fastest time of the year (3:27.54) and finished second to Belmont. However, Woburn (3:34.36) was right behind The Minutemen and by coming in third place they sealed the League Title by the narrowest of margins 144.5 to 142.
Following their stellar performance in the final home meet of the season last week, the Girls team turned in another strong performance finishing in a tie for fifth place overall and scoring 57 points of their own. As was the case with the Boys, Woburn took home the Girls title scoring 139 points overall.
