THE MINUTEMEN DISPATCH ARLINGTON TO MOVE TO 2-0
Meet Information
Arlington Dual Meet
May 13, 2021
Arlington High School - Arlington, MA
RESULTS
ARLINGTON, MA - This past Thursday The Minutemen crossed the boarder into Arlington for their second dual meet of the Outdoor season. The Spy Ponders did not have quite the same firepower they did a few short years ago, so the meet offered the Lexington High School team the opportunity to try athletes out in events they would not otherwise run while still picking up a pair of victories. On the boys side the meet was won by a score of 94-42. While the girls, not to be outdone, managed to earn one more point en route to a 95-41 victory.
The girls meet was highlighted by The Minutemen's High Jump crew of Mari McBride and Maddie Parks. McBride, a team captain, continued her stellar year in her signature event. After setting a new PR of 5'3" last week, the junior moved the bar up to 5'4" Thursday and on her second attempt she was able to soar over the bar for a new personal record. Parks, a sophomore, had been stuck on 4'10" all Indoor season and hit that same mark last week against Belmont. However, this week she was able to break the elusive 5 foot barrier for the first time since her middle school days. Her leap of 5'0" is a would-be qualifier for the Divisional Championships. LHS's dynamic duo went 1-2 in the event to score eight points for their team. On the track senior Aylin Bruce - who is committed to run for the University of Richmond Spiders next year - took her first run at the 800m since her sophomore year. The captain, cruised through 400m with a large lead and continued to pour it on over the final lap to win the event with a time of 2:30.3, besting the field by nearly seven seconds.
In the boys meet, sophomores Michael Gerfen and Jerry Gong both turned in PRs on their way to a 1-2 finish in the Long Jump. Gerfen - who came in with a PR of 19'2.50" - did not waste any time as his first attempt flew him 19'11.50". That mark would hold up as the best jump on the day, and was his first time over 19 feet since last winter. Meanwhile, Gong - who moonlights as a Javelin thrower - waited for his third and final attempt to pop off with a jump that landed him 19'9.50" into the pit. The leap bested his previous PR by over half a foot. Another strong performance for The Minutemen was turned in by junior Josh Lee. The 100/200 specialist was bumped up to the 400m Dash for the first time in his high school career. Lee showed well by narrowly winning the event. While an official timing error resulted in no times being posted for the varsity race, Lee's unofficial time was clocked at 53.1 seconds.
