SOLOMON LEADS THE BOYS TO A SILVER MEDAL IN THE 4X800 AT ALL-STATES
Meet Information
MIAA All-State Championships
June 24, 2021
Norwell High School - Norwell, MA
RESULTS
NORWELL, MA - As was the case for the Divisional Championships, the All-State Championships were broken up between two days this year due to self imposed COVID restrictions by the MIAA. For The Minutemen, that meant that on Day 1 senior Stephen Joseph would run the 800m, and then be joined by junior Traver Smith III, and captains Reed Solomon and Evan Eberle in the 4x800m Relay.
The last time the Mid-D squad raced a 4x800m at an All-State Championship, they were edged out at the finish line by Wellesley and had to settle for the second place. While only one of those four members of that relay were on the 4x8 this season, the boys wanted a taste of redemption this season. Smith III ran hard for his team but faltered over the final 100m, handing off to Solomon well back of the leaders. Despite this, the senior harrier got the baton and charged after the leaders. Cruising through the first lap in 56 seconds, Solomon brought the boys back to the lead pack with a 1:57.9 split before handing to Joseph. Joseph ran well for his teammates and put them in second place - about 20 meters back of Concord-Carlisle - as Eberle waiting for his turn on the track. In what seemed to be a carbon copy of Divisionals, LHS's star junior got the baton and went after Concord-Carlisle's Marko Kovacevic with reckless abandon. Despite his strong run, Kovacevic was simply too far gone for Eberle to run down and The Lexington Minutemen finished a strong second to the Concord-Carlisle Minutemen with a season best 8:03.53.
