LHS'S "BOMB SQUAD" EXPLODES AT DAY 2 OF DIVISIONALS
Meet Information
MIAA North Division 1 Championships
June 19, 2021
North Andover High School - North Andover, MA
RESULTS
NORTH ANDOVER, MA - Saturday, on a humid day that reached the 90s, The Minutemen were back at North Andover High for the second day of the Divisional Championships. After Thursday's competition Lexington High School's boys sat in seventh place (15 points) while the girls were in 18th overall (2 points). By the end of the day, the Newton North girls won the title with 73.5 points. However, the Lex girls vaulted up to seventh place overall, scoring 51 points overall. The boys turned in a number of strong performances on the day and finished 12th overall with 25 points. Acton-Boxborough took the overall crown with 106.5 points.
As she has done all year senior captain Aleia Gisolfi-McCready led the way for The Minutemen, scoring two wins - and 20 points - for her team. She won the 400m Intermediate Hurdles in 1:04.39, and came back to break her own LHS record in the 400m Dash with a time of 56.08 seconds. But the real story on the day was from LHS's "Bomb Squad" in the Discus. Coming into the day seeded tenth with a lifetime best 94'10", freshman Quin Tandeih uncorked a rocket on her second throw of the prelims that went 108'4"!!! That 14-foot PR was four feet farther than the top seed going into the competition. In the end it would hold up to earn Tandeih the silver medal, and score eight points for The Minutemen. Along with Tandeih, junior Raquel Batista-Vieira placed seventh overall, and scoring two points with a best throw of 96'0".
On the boys side, it was same story different chapter, as the "Bomb Squad" led the way for The Minutemen scoring eight of LHS's ten points on the day. Jarret Dlugy who has been the backbone of the throws program all year at LHS, was once again the standout performer for the boys on Saturday. In his signature event, the Discus, the senior captain launched the four pound metal implement 143'7" to place fifth overall. Along with Dlugy's impressive performance, the next generation showed they are ready to carry the torch when Dlugy moves on from LHS next year. Sophomore Jack Ngo threw a 7-foot PR in the Discus (132'1") to place seventh overall. Then in the Shot Put, fellow classmate Matt Jacob came in seeded 13th at 45'5", but he found a new level on Saturday as his best throw travelled 47'0". That mark placed seventh overall on a tiebreaker.
