JOSEPH AND MCBRIDE TAKE CENTER STAGE AT DIAMOND-CLARKE SHOWCASE
Meet Information
Diamond-Clarke Showcase
June 14, 2021
Lexington High School - Lexington, MA
RESULTS
LEXINGTON, MA - Due to a regular season that was shortened due to safety concerns at the LHS track, as well as issues related to COVID-19, The Minutemen decided to host a "Last Chance" meet of sorts on Monday afternoon. FAT timing was utilized, rain was anywhere from a drizzle to an all out downpour, and 27 varsity athletes turned in season or personal bests. Among all the great performances turned in by The Minutemen, perhaps none stood out more than those of senior Stephen Joseph and junior captain Mari McBride.
Competing in the 800m for the first time in over a month, Joseph was well in control of the race when he cruised through the 400m in 57 seconds - nearly 10 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. He then kept the pressure on over the final lap, driving down the homestretch to a new PR of 1:58.60. That time qualifies him for the Divisional Championships on Thursday, and makes him LHS's third harrier to break the 2-minute barrier this season. Not to be outdone, McBride came into the meet with a PR of 5'4" in the High Jump. Going into the day that mark had her just one inch shy of the 5'5" qualifying standard at The Outdoor Nationals. Sure enough, despite less than ideal jumping conditions, McBride made her mark by clearing 5'5" on the nose.
