McCall Middle School - Winchester, MA
RESULTS
WINCHESTER, MA - After a two week layoff, Thursday, Lexington High School was back on the track against the Red and Black of Winchester on what was a perfect day for a track meet. Despite some strong individual performances from Winchester, they were simply no match for The Minutemen. The girls won by a score of 102-34, while the boys best that by one point, dispatching the Red and Black 103-33.
For the girls, a quartet of seniors highlighted the meet against Winchester. On the track things got started off with a bang as senior captain Aleia Gisolfi-McCready ran a two second PR in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles. Her time of 1:06.6h now moves her within a half a second of Rebecca Pion's (LHS '16) school record in the event. She then came back to win the 200m Dash in a Divisional Championship qualifying time of 26.1 seconds. Along with Gisolfi-McCready's performance, fellow classmate Catherine Movsessian took her first run in the 400m Dash since 2019 and she did not disappoint. Movsessian set a new personal best in the event by nearly a second by running 1:00.6. That time qualifies her for the Divisionals in June. Finishing right behind her was fellow classmate, captain Aylin Bruce. Her time of 1:01.1 seconds was an open PR of over two seconds, and also qualified her for Divisionals. In the 2 Mile, senior Lauren Sterne came to the track with one thing in mind and that was break the illusive 12 minute barrier. After coming through the mile in 6:04, that goal was in doubt. Sterne picked it up on the next lap to get herself back on pace but seemed to run out of gas over the next half mile. As she came up to the bell lap, she needed an 86 second final 400 to make the mark. Charging around the track and gritting her way down the homestretch, Sterne crossed the line 11:59.2 to take victory with a time that bested her previous PR by 18 seconds.
The boys meet saw The Minutemen win 14 of 16 events in route to victory. On the track the meet was highlighted by junior middle distance runner, Traver Smith III who toed the line in the 800m for the first time this season. Coming in with an open PR of 2:05.82, Smith III came through the 400 in a quick 56 seconds and held on over the final lap to win the event and smash his previous personal best with a time of 2:00.7. In the field events, team captain Jarret Dlugy represented LHS's "Bomb Squad" in fine style in the Shot Put. On his best throw, the senior launched the 12 pound metal ball to a distance of 44'11.75", which bested his previous PR by over a foot. In addition to Dlugy, sophomores Jack Ngo (43'4.50") and Matt Jacob (40'5") helped break out the golden broom by sweeping the event.
