THE MINUTEMEN AND MARAUDERS SQUARE OFF IN THE FINAL DUAL MEET OF THE YEAR
Meet Information
Belmont Dual Meet
May 10, 2022
Belmont High School - Belmont, MA
RESULTS
BELMONT, MA - Tuesday The Minutemen traveled to Belmont for the final Middlesex League dual meet of the 2021-2022 school year. With Championship Season on the horizon, LHS rested a number of its top student-athletes. This gave some JV athletes the chance to step up and make their final cases to make the championship roster.
On the Boys side, perhaps the strongest performance of the day came from junior Alexios Kontothanassis. The Minutemen's top Triple Jumper and a member of the 400m Hurdle squad dropped down to the 200m Dash for the first time in his career. Kontothanassis blasted away from the field and poured in on down the homestretch to win the race in a Middlesex League Championship qualifying time of 23.3h seconds. Also trying a new event, junior miler Ian Miller picked up a Javelin for the first time in a meet and threw it 89'1". That throw earned Miller his varsity letter as he placed second on the team, and third overall in the event. Also earning a varsity letter was junior Jinn Janpathompong, who was first across the line in the 2 Mile for LHS with a PR of 11:02.1h.
The Lex Girls had a number of strong performances, but perhaps none more timely than that of Jasmine Sun. Coming into the meet with a 2 Mile PR of 12:55, the junior had not achieved the League Meet standard and was facing the end of her season if she could not dip below the qualifying time of 12:49.88. Sun did that and more as she raced her way to a new PR of 12:22.0h to punch her ticket to League. Despite a fall on the seventh hurdle, junior Uma Sanker still turned in a PR of 1:13.3h in the 400m Hurdles, before coming back later to run a season best time of 5:32.4h in the Mile. Senior Regan Lacombe turned in a season best in the High Jump with a leap of 4'8" to place third overall in the event.
