CRINITI'S MA #1 , McBRIDE'S DOUBLE GOLD, AND THE "BOMB SQUAD" HIGHLIGHT COACHES

Meet Information
MSTCA Coaches Invitational
May 14, 2022
Boston College High School - Dorchester, MA
RESULTS
DORCHESTER, MA - Saturday proved to be a record setting day in the City of Boston as temps reached record highs for May 14th. Despite the conditions, The Minutemen turned in a number of strong performances in what was their final tune up before Championship Season gets under way next week.
Without question the highlight of the meet came in the first event of the day. After a tremendous winter campaign, junior captain Ava Criniti has struggled to find her form this spring. That all changed when she toed the line in the 2 Mile against Wellesley senior Rory Clare. The Raiders' middle distance star came in with PRs of 2:13 for 800m and 5:05 for the Mile, and took charge from the beginning of the race. Despite the strong pace through the mile - 5:35 - Criniti stayed relaxed, sitting on Clare's shoulder over the next three laps until Clare made her move with 400m to go. Criniti fell back a few meters with 200 to go, but when she came around the turn to the top of the homestretch she unleashed her signature kick and burst past Clare to take the tape in a new PR and MA #1 time of 11:04.46. That time was the fastest run by an LHS girl since former DIII NCAA Cross Country Champion Paige Lawler (LHS '16) ran 11:01.05 for The Minutemen in 2016. Along with Criniti's huge day, fellow captain Mari McBride started off her day by winning the High Jump on jumps with a leap of 5'0". The senior then came back in the 400m, where she poured it on over the final 100m of the race to pull away from the field. McBride crossed the line with a season best, and MA #3 time of 58.45 to win the event. For the Boys, it was a field first kind of day. The LHS "Bomb Squad" was out in full force in the Discus. Leading the way was junior captain Jack Ngo who earned the bronze medal with a massive PR of 149'8". He was followed up fellow classmates Kaden Cassidy (135'5") and Allen Jiang (130'4") who placed fifth and seventh respectively in the event.
