DIVISIONALS DAY 1 HIGHLIGHTS: LHS'S "BOMB SQUAD" PUTS ON A SHOW IN THE DISCUS
Meet Information
MIAA Division 1 Championships

Shrewsbury High School - Shrewsbury, MA
RESULTS
SHREWSBURY, MA - In the interest of moving things along, the MIAA decided to change the format of the Divisional Championships to a two day schedule. Some events were competed on Day 1, while the majority of the events will be held two days later to decide the eventual Team Champion. While the logic behind the format change might not make much sense in track & field circles, it does allow for athletes competing to more easily double and triple in events as they are spread out over three days. The Minutemen took advantage of Day 1, with a number of top tier performances leading the Boys to be sitting in sixth place overall with 19 points - St. John's Prep leads with 37 - while the Girls matched that effort of 19 points to sit in fifth - Andover has 48 points to lead the field.
Without question the performance of the day for The Minutemen came from senior captain Raquel Batista-Vieira. The senior stalwart has been the backbone of the LHS "Bomb Squad" for four years. As a 9th grader, she was the only freshman in the field at the Divisional Championships. Fast forward to Friday, and coming in with a PR of 100'4" from the first meet of the season, the now team captain uncorked a 113'8" throw with her first attempt of the competition. Her next four throws would all exceed her previous personal best, but that initial throw would stand as her best at the end of six rounds of competition to earn her the silver medal. Not to be outdone, her male counterparts put on a show of their own in the Discus. Junior Kaden "The Sundance Kid" Cassidy ripped off a six-foot PR of 141'10". That throw earned him a silver medal of his own in just his first season competing in the High School Discus. All with The Sundance Kid's stellar day, fellow classmate Allen Jiang dropped a three-foot PR (133'10") to place fourth overall in the event.
