Meet Information
MSTCA Jim Hoar School Freshmen/Sophomore Invitational
May 7, 2022
Plymouth South High School - Plymouth, MA
RESULTS
PLYMOUTH, MA - Saturday, for the first time since 2019 The Minutemen participated in all facets of what the coaching staff has termed "Track Day." Two meets in three locations in less than 12 hours. The first leg of the day was the annual Freshmen/Sophomore Meet, which this year was given a new twist. Unlikely previous meets that were separated by small schools and large schools, this year's version of the meet was held on two dates with the mentality of whoever shows up will compete. For The Minutemen, who showed up was the Girls 4x400m Relay of sophomore Adia Singh, freshman Caroline Kvaal, sophomore Gabby Fainelli, and sophomore Maya Dubrovsky. The quartet turned in a stellar performance, running 4:18.82 to best the host school by nearly six seconds en route to the teams only gold medal performance on the day.
Along with the big day for the Girls 4x4, another highlight came from freshman Max Zhang in the 800m. The young harrier charged out to the lead in the Boys 800m, battling through a driving wind over the first 600 meters. He was overtaken down the homestretch by Revere's JV Cunha, but still turned in a silver medal winning performance with a time of 2:03.47. Along with his efforts in the 800m, Zhang came back to the 4x400m Relay of sophomore McKenna O'Hare-Gibson, sophomore Joe Adiwijaya, and sophomore Khai Uda-Thach. The squad turned in a silver medal performance as well with a time of 3:44.56.
Fainelli and Dubrovsky started off their big days by earning a pair of medals in the 800m. Fainelli crossed the line in 2:26.71 to place fourth overall, while Dubrovsky's time of 2:28.47 placed her sixth. The Minutemen's only other medal on the day was won in the first event of the day. Running in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles, Singh ran a personal best time of 1:12.68 to place fifth overall.
