FRIDIGED WEATHER WELCOMES THE BAYSTATE BACK TO WESTON'S TWILIGHT INVITE
Meet Information
Weston Twilight Invitational
May 7, 2022
Weston High School and Regis College - Weston, MA
RESULTS
WESTON, MA - After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, The Minutemen returned to the Weston Twilight Meet to finish off the second half of "Track Day." Like the Kentucky Derby, the Twilight Meet always falls in the late afternoon of the first Saturday in May. It is steeped in tradition, and while no one is singing "My Old Kentucky Home" to get things started, the performances on the track have provided drama and intrigue on the same level as the thoroughbred racing that takes place in the Bluegrass State. However, temps that dipped into the 40s and a steady driving wind zapped the energy from the field. To put it simply, The Minutemen turned in the best they could in otherwise horrible conditions for competition.
On the Boys side, no star shined brighter than Jayden Bai. The junior Hurdler is rapidly becoming one of the better athletes in the state, and has begun to have success both in the High and Intermediate Hurdles. At Twilight, he began his day by turning in a second place finish in the 400m Hurdles with a new PR of 58.66 seconds. He then came back later in the meet to run an FAT PR of 15.58 seconds over the 110m Hurdles to place fifth. That effort in the High Hurdles was just edged out by his fellow classmate, captain Michael Gerfen who's time of 15.57 was also an FAT personal record.
The Lex Girls were led by senior captain Elena Sabin. Running in her signature event, the 400m Hurdles, Sabin charged out to a strong start and maintain a good pace over 10 hurdles. Her final time of 1:09.81 was a season best and placed fourth overall. Along with her day, junior Jasmine Sun toed the line for only the second time ever in the 2000m Steeplechase. A seldom run event in Massachusetts, it offers athletes the brutal challenge of four 30-inch barriers and one water jump on each of its five grueling laps. Sun turned in a PR of over 10 seconds to place third with a time of 8:33.94.
