BOMB SQUAD GRABS HEADLINES AND SANKER BREAKS THROUGH AT COACHES INVITE
Meet Information
MSTCA Coaches Invitational
May 13, 2023
Norton High School - Norton, MA
RESULTS
NORTON, MA - Saturday a small group of Lexington High School student-athletes traveled down to the brand new track and field facility at Norton High School. The 8-lane facility offered The Minutemen an eerily similar layout to the one at the Lexington Center Recreation Complex, with a Discus cage located on the infield at the start of the backstretch opposite to the finish line. However, unlike the one in Lexington, the cage itself was installed in a way that kept almost all wild throws off the track itself. This was important as LHS's Bomb Squad was firing early and often in the event, with nine boys and girls having qualified for the invitational-only meet (double that of any other school) that is billed as "a preview of the All-State Championships." All that being said, The Captain Jack Ngo was the top finisher for The Minutemen. He earned bronze with a throw of 142'3". While the Lex Girls were led by freshman Ainsley Cuthbertson, who's best throw of 98'3" landed her 12th in the competition, and made her the #1 ranked ninth grader in the state. Along with the big day in the cage, The Minutemen had a breakthrough performance from Uma Sanker in the 800m. As was the case with LHS's distance queen Ava Criniti last year, Sanker had battled inconsistencies throughout her spring season after showing flashes of her capabilities in the winter. The LHS senior came to the Coaches Invite in the hopes of finding some competition that would bring out the best in her as Championship Season begins next week. Sanker, did just that on Saturday. Running a strong race from start to finish, she shattered her personal best by nearly three-seconds and broke the elusive 2:20 barrier for the first time with a PR of 2:18.92. Her performance earned her the silver medal, and now has her ranked MA #5 in the 800m.
Other Highlights from the Meet
Up Next
The Middlesex League Championships will be held this Wednesday, May 17th at Burlington High School. Indoors both the Boys' and Girls' Teams came away with emphatic victories at this meet, and after completing a pair of undefeated seasons in Dual Meet action this Spring, The Minutemen have their eyes squarely set on taking the titles once again. The meet - which will crown the League Champs for Boys and Girls - will begin at 3:30pm.
