BIG START FOR THE BOMB SQUAD: TANDIEH GETS LHS RECORD, BOYS QUALIFY FOR NATS
Meet Information
55th Annual R.I. Knights of Columbus Relays
April 1, 2023
Conley Stadium - Providence, RI
RESULTS
PROVIDENCE, RI - While the rest of The Minutemen will begin their season next weekend against Arlington, as they often do, LHS's Bomb Squad traveled across state lines to find a place to compete the Hammer Throw. The highly technical event features an 8lb (for girls) or a 12lb (for boys) metal ball that is attached to a wire, which athletes spin across a two meter circle to unleash into the sector. Watch LHS senior Kaden "the Sundance Kid" Cassidy let it fly HERE. It requires a unique blend of speed, power, body control, and the right coaching to achieve the ideal technique an athlete needs to excel. Over his six years coaching at LHS, Head Coach James Hall has developed the group into Massachusetts' preeminent powerhouse in the event. And Saturday was perhaps the group's finest performance to date.
The rain soaked circle and miserable conditions did not appear to affect the Bomb Squad, as the six athletes who competed all turned in personal bests. Three of them qualified for Nationals. And junior Quin Tandeih's 30.02m/ 98'6" throw broke the previous LHS Record held by Janna Lee (LHS '18).
