Meet Information
MIAA Meet of Champions Day 1
June 1, 2023
Elliot Field Athletic Complex - Fitchburg, MA
RESULTS
FITCHBURG, MA - After an epic performance at last week's MIAA Division 1 State Championship, The Minutemen were back in action on Thursday for Day 1 of the MIAA Meet of Champions. While the meet is not officially scored, after 8 of 19 events LHS's Boys sit in a tie for third place with 16 points behind Division 1 rivals St. John's Prep (23) and Acton-Boxborough (21). The Lex Girls put up 8 points on Day 1, on the back of senior captain Ava Criniti's runner-up finish in the 2 Mile. Billerica's girls are in the lead with 19 points, while North Reading is second with 16.
The star of the show for The Minutemen was Kaden "The Sundance Kid" Cassidy. A member of LHS's Bomb Squad, the senior won the Division 1 crown last week in the Discus, and came to the Elliot Field Athletic Complex with the fifth best PR (159'8") of anyone who competed. It was clear that Cassidy was locked in during warm-ups, as he was consistently launching the 3.5lb metal implement deep into the sector. When competition opened up, he wound up for his second round throw and sent the Discus screaming out into the sector. His throw landed an impressive distance of 161'10". That mark vaulted Cassidy up to the lead heading into finals. Despite a challenge from Parker Charter Essential's Theo Puterbaugh (159'11"), no one could out-dual The Sundance Kid on Thursday and he walked away as the State Champion with the second farthest throw in LHS History.
