MOW COMPLETES HIS MAGICAL FRESHMAN CAMPAIGN WITH A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Meet Information
New Balance Outdoor Nationals Day 2
June 16, 2023
Franklin Field - Philadelphia, PA
RESULTS
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Minutemen were back at Day 2 of the New Balance Outdoor Nationals on Friday. However, things got off to a difficult start as severe thunderstorms halted competition for over five hours. Athletes and coaches had to make a number of adjustments throughout the day in order to deal with the conditions. However, none of LHS's athletes handled the adversity better than one of its youngest athletes at the meet.
Freshman Amari Mow did not compete for The Minutemen's Track & Field Team this past Indoor Season. A football and basketball player at LHS, Track & Field was undoubtedly his third sport when he came out this Spring, despite being the Middle School State Champion in the 100m Dash last year. At the start of Outdoor, the talented sprinter tried out a new event, the Long Jump, after he competed in the High Jump at Clarke Middle School. Since that first meet on the runway, Mow has been a revelation for The Minutemen. It was his heroics taking home the Long Jump crown at the Division 1 Championships that delivered LHS the Team Title. That was LHS's first since 2007, and third in School History. He then competed in unseasonably cold and damp conditions at the Meet of Champions, and once again stood victorious. Friday he was on the Long Jump runway at Historic Franklin Field, where he competed in the Freshmen Division of the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. During the course of the event, Mow had the crowd glued on his every move in and around the pit, with the entire stadium clapping as one during his final attempt of the competition. However, it Mow's third attempt of the event where the ninth grader showed the fans in Philadelphia exactly what he can do. The young superstar-in-the-making exploded off the board and flew gracefully through the air to a distance of 6.75m (22'1.75"). That jump bested 19 other jumpers in the field by over a half-foot, and earned him the title of National Champion.
Other Highlights for the LHS

The Minutemen are back in action for Day 3 tomorrow. The Bomb Squad will get their chance to compete in their signature event, the Hammer Throw. "The Captain" Jack Ngo, Allen Jiang, and Kaden "The Sundance Kid" Cassidy all will don their LHS singlets for the final time after graduating at the beginning of the month. Along with the Bomb Squad, the shuttle hurdle crew, and sprinters will also be lighting things up for The Minutemen on the track. Action will get underway at 9:00am, and can be streamed live HERE.
