Meet Information
New England Hammer Throw Championships
June 8, 2023
Classical High School - Providence, RI

RESULTS

PROVIDENCE, RI - While the rest of The Minutemen were prepping for the end of season banquet, the Bomb Squad was warming up for their signature event, the Hammer Throw. While not officially competed in Massachusetts, under the tutelage of Head Coach James Hall, if a student-athlete wants to throw at Lexington High School then they must take a turn in the Hammer circle. The Boys Class of 2023 has totally bought into this idea, as the senior trio of Kaden "The Sundance Kid" Cassidy (US #10), Allen Jiang (US #17), and "The Captain" Jack Ngo (US #44) make up the third ranked Hammer squad in the Nation. With an average throw from The Minutemen's top-three reaching 187'5.50", the senior trio ranks only behind the teams from Lincoln (RI), who's top three averages 197'2.5", and Bishop Hendricken (RI), who average 191'1.75".

Cassidy came into the meet having already set the LHS Record in the event earlier this season, and was anxious to test himself against the best New England had to offer. On Thursday afternoon, The Sundance Kid was the best he has been to date for The Minutemen. The senior uncorked a throw 200'2", which marked the first time any LHS student-athlete had thrown any implement over the 200-foot barrier since former NBA Rookie of the Year Ronnie Lee (LHS '72) threw the old javelin - since modified in weight and design - 234'10". That throw earned Cassidy the silver medal at the Championships, and now has him ranked US #8 in the event. Along with Cassidy, Jiang also earned a fourth place medal with his best throw traveling 189'4". Ngo rounded out the day for The Minutemen. He bested his previous PR by over three feet, as he launched the 12lb implement 175'11" to claim the 10th position in the competition.

Up Next
After they qualified for the New England Championships with top-six finishes at the Meet of Champions, a select group of LHS athletes who have yet to achieve the New Balance Outdoor Nationals will make the trek up to Bangor Maine on Saturday to compete for a chance to extend their season. The meet at Cameron Stadium will begin with Field Events at 10:00am, and Track Events at 10:15.
