ARLINGTON, MA - Wednesday afternoon, in what ended up being a marathon affair by dual meet standards, The Minutemen marched through Arlington with little resistance from the Spy Ponders. On the girls side, LHS took care of business by a score of 77.5 to 58.5. While the boys put up 111 points to Arlington's 24.
The girls team was highlighted by a pair of Division 1 Championship qualifying performances and a double gold. The first qualifying performance was achieved by junior Keena Gao in the Long Jump. She won the event with a season best leap of 16'6.5". Along with Gao was senior captain Kesinia Sortor's winning run in the 2 Mile. After cruising through the first mile in an unofficial time of 5:58, Sortor turned on the jets a charged away from the field over the final four laps. She covered the second mile in an impressive 5:52 en route to a season best time of 11:50.2h. In addition to the D1 qualifying performances, freshman Raquel Batista-Vieira had a strong day of her own. She started by winning the Discus with a huge personal best of 85'0", and then came back with another personal best (28'2.25") to win the Shot Put.
Perhaps the best performance on the day for the boys came from LHS junior Josh Backert. To begin the meet Backert led a sweep of the 400m Intermediate Hurdles in a personal best time of 59.3h seconds. That time qualified him for the D1 meet. Backert then headed to the jumping pits where he came up with another personal best and D1 qualifying mark by winning the Triple Jump in 41'8". To finish his day, Backert came up just short of completing the triple gold in the 400m Dash - senior Kazu Uda-Thach won in 50.8h seconds - but still ran a season best and D1 qualifying time of 51.6h seconds. Along with Backert's big day, Carter Franciskovich came up with a great performance of his own in the Javelin. The LHS senior launched his first throw a D1 qualifying distance 149'2", taking the 'W' in the process.

The Minutemen return to action on Sunday when they travel to Braintree High School - the host site for the MSTCA Division 1 Relays. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 9:30am.

Other Highlights for the Girls
- Junior Danna Ofek picked up The Minutemen's first win of the day by taking the Mile in 5:29.1h.
- In the 400m Dash, sophomore Lina Jafaar bursted out to a big lead and then was able to hold off a strong finish by Arlington's Patel Masini by one-tenth of a second. She won in a time of 1:04.3h.
- Pauline Steines (2:26.7h), Aylin Bruce (2:36.6h), and Yuna Cho (2:40.9h) pulled out the golden broom in the 800m.
- Juniors Lily Sheth and Rachel Caldwell-Glixon went 1-2 in the 200m Dash running 28.0h and 28.1h respectively.
- Freshmen Anna Yang finished with a pair of personal bests in the Long (15'5") and Triple (29'11") Jumps, placing second in both events.
- While Arlington went 1-2 in the 400m Hurdles, LHS freshman Elana Sabin debuted in the event running 1:14.5h - the best by The Minutemen all season.
Other Highlights for the Boys
- The golden broom was back out in the 2 Mile when Micah Benson (9:53.8h), Eli Gappelberg (9:55.0h), and Matt McAlarney (10:03.5h) went 1-2-3.
- After coming in second in the 400m Hurdles (59.5h seconds) junior captain Shymon Samsel came back to win the 110m High Hurdles in 15.5h seconds.
- Senior captain Matt Pusatere (24.0h seconds) narrowly edged out fellow classmate Alex Hiser (24.1h seconds) in the 200m Dash; Pusatere also threw a personal best of 136'4" in the Javelin.
- In the 800m junior Selvin Backert (2:02.5h) took the win, while freshman Evan Eberle (2:03.6h) was second. Eberle also won the High Jump with a personal best leap of 5'7".
- Junior Liam Cotter finished off the sweep in the 400m Hurdles by placing third in 1:00.8h; he also picked up third in the 110m Hurdles in 16.2h seconds.
- Running a personal best in the Mile was junior Adam Bernstein (4:39.3h) to place third.
