RESULTS
WESTFIELD, MA - Saturday afternoon The Minutemen traveled out to the campus of Westfield State University for the All-State Championships. The team championships were both successfully defended by the 2018 Champions. On the girls side the ladies from Wellesley scored 38 points just edging out Natick (35 points) en route to reclaiming their title. The boys from Lowell scored 50 points to to pace the field; Acton-Boxborough and Newton North were tied for second with 38 points. For The Minutemen, the girls scored six points finishing tied for 47th. While the boys tied for 49th with five points.
On the boys side, the 4x100m Relay team of sophomore Alex Murphy, junior Salvador Jaramillo, as well as seniors Alex Hiser and Kazu Uda-Thach came into the meet seeded 13th with a season best time of 43.73 seconds. Running from the unseeded section the boys ran a tremendous race with crisp hand-offs and won their heat, improving their season best to 43.09. Then the waiting game started as the seeded heat crossed the line right around The Minutemen's time. When the times came across the scoreboard Lexington's boys had placed fifth and by finishing in the top six they punched their ticket to the New England Championships.
After her third place finish last week at the Division 1 Championships, junior Danna Ofek came to Westfield seeded ninth in a talented 2 Mile field. Going into the final lap three runners had broken away from Ofek's pack and would finish on the podium. However, with the final three spots at New Englands still up for grabs the LHS standout was in a fight to finish in the top six. Coming around the final turn and down the final homestretch Ofek was boxed in and was darting back and forth to find room to break away from the pack. With less than 50m to go she found an opening, charged for the line, and grabbed the sixth and final spot by just over half a second. Despite very warm and humid temperatures that hampered many runners in the field, Ofek's final time of 11:11.79 was just a few seconds off her personal best.
