LEXINGTON, MA - After rain postponed the meet originally scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday afternoon Belmont came to Town to face off against The Minutemen. The boys easily rolled to victory winning by a score of 99-37. Despite being undermanned due to injuries, the LHS girls put up a strong battle against a talented Belmont team but as was the case indoors they fell short. This time losing by a score of 72-64.
In the losing effort The Minutemen still had a number of top performances, and it was the junior class that carried much of the load. The 2 Mile saw a rematch of the top two finishers in the Middlesex League Championships this past February, LHS's Danna Ofek and Belmont senior Audrey Christo. Unlike indoors when the two were neck and neck from wire to wire, Ofek went out at a hard pace early and went through the mile in 5:46. By that point she had gapped Christo and only continued to pour it on in the second mile. In the end Ofek won by over 20 seconds, crossing the finish line in 11:30.9h and qualifying for the Divisional Championships in her second event of the season. Along with Ofek, fellow classmate Pauline Steines turned in an impressive performance of her own in the 800m. After going through the quarter mile in 72 seconds Steines ran away from the field in the second lap, winning in a personal best 2:25.7h and qualifying for the League Championships along the way. Along with her 800 win, Steines came back to help the 4x400m relay take the tape in a Divisional qualifying time of 4:15.2h. Also in the relay was Lily Sheth who earlier in the meet finished second in the 400m in a Divisional qualifying 1:01.5h. Sheth anchored the relay in another 61.5 seconds.
On the boys side, as was the case last week, senior Kazu Uda-Thach led the way for The Minutemen. He began his day by winning the Long Jump by over a foot with a leap of 20'7". Then he blazed away from the field in the 200m with a personal best 21.8h. Finally he finished off the afternoon by anchoring the 4x100m relay to victory in 44.9h seconds. In addition to Uda-Thach, the Javelin saw some of the best competition on the day. Belmont senior Alex Rokosz won the event with a tremendous throw of 170'0", and it took that kind of an effort with the performances the LHS group turned in. Senior Carter Franciskovich (147'4") and senior captain Matt Pusatere (134'4") both turned in season bests by over 10 feet en route to a second and third place finish respectively.
