UNDERCLASSMAN TAKE CENTER STAGE AT FRESHMEN/SOPHOMORE MEET
Meet Information
MSTCA Large School Freshmen/Sophomore Meet

Franklin High School - Franklin, MA .
RESULTS
FRANKLIN, MA - In the first half of The Minutemen's double-header on Saturday the underclassmen got the opportunity to compete against the best of their fellow classmates the state had to offer at the annual Freshmen/Sophomore meet. While not a scored meet, the meet allows schools the opportunity to showcase their young talent and gives teams a glimpse at the future of their programs. If Saturday's performances were any indicator of things to come, the future of track and field in Lexington looks bright. On the girls side it was freshman Raquel Batista-Vieira who established herself as one of the best up and coming throwers at the meet. In her first event, the Shot Put, the freshman nearly matched her personal best with a throw of 28'6.5" and in doing so placed fifth overall (first among freshmen). Batista-Vieira then came back to finish seventh in the Discus with a throw of 76'11". Along with Batista-Vieira's performances the other top ten finisher for the girls was freshman Elana Sabin. Running in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles, Sabin was second in her heat and placed ninth overall with a personal best time of 1:13.02. After that stellar performance the freshman was back to lead off the 4x400m Relay. Along with fellow classmate Fiona Breen and sophomores Sunny Tang and Aylin Bruce the quartet placed sixth in a time of 4:24.42.
As was the case for the girls, on the boys side it was a thrower who stole the show for The Minutemen. Sophomore Jarret Dlugy came up just shy of his PR in the Discus, but his 115'2" throw was still enough to place fourth overall in the event. Another strong performance came from sophomore 800m runner Stephen Joseph. Running in the seeded section, Joseph used a ferocious kick over the last 100m of the race to finish eighth in a personal best and Middlesex League Championship qualifying time of 2:04.85. In addition to the strong individual performances, perhaps the most surprising performance for The Minutemen came from the 4x100m Relay of Alex Murphy, Andrew Hu, Lorenzo Belleau and Darren Tswei. The group destroyed their heat, winning by 20 meters and then had to wait and see how their time of 46.39 would stand up to the seeded heats. When the dust of the final race settled, the top three teams had dipped under the previous meet record but despite that LHS's time was enough to earn a fifth place medal.
