HINGHAM, MA - For Lexington's ladies the MIAA Division 1 Eastern Massachusetts Championships began with a bang Thursday afternoon as standout junior Rachel Caldwell-Glixon represented The Minutemen in the Girls Pentathlon. The LHS record holder in both the Indoor (2896 points) and Outdoor (2858 points) Pentathlons showed up at Hingham High School seeded nearly 400 points higher than her closet competitor, and "RCG" performed like it in all five events.
From the start RCG established herself as the class of the field - she would finish first in four of the five events. She began her day with the top finish in the 100m High Hurdles (16.09) before heading to her best two events, the Long and High Jumps. In the Long Jump she won the event with a new personal best leap of 17'8.25". She then was the only athlete in the field to clear the bar at 5'1.25" in the High Jump. After throwing a season best 28'6.25" in the Shot Put and besting the field by over a foot, RCG had the victory all but sown up with only the 800m remaining. Coming in with a season best of 2:51, RCG needed to break 2:47 in the final event of a grueling day to get herself over the 3000 point barrier. The junior showed that she is in top form in her signature event, running a personal best 2:39.09 to finish with a final point total of 3087 - improving upon her school record in the process. And by dispatching the field by over almost 400 points, RCG secured the victory along with 10 points and an early lead for The Minutemen at the D1 Championships.
Up Next
Saturday, RCG and the rest of the girls and boys LHS squads will head down to Norwell High School for the conclusion of the Divisional Championships. The meet is set to get underway at 10am.
