THE MINUTEMEN MARCH ON THE MIDDLESEX LEAGUE
Meet Information
Middlesex League Championships
May 16, 2019
Burlington High School - Burlington, MA
RESULTS
BURLINGTON, MA - After a postponement due to inclement weather on Tuesday, and poor planning on the part of the League's commissioner, the Middlesex League Championships were relocated from Regis College's facility to that of Burlington High School. Despite the change of venue the BHS athletes and staff were tremendous hosts, as the meet went off without a hitch on Thursday afternoon.
For the boys there were a number of strong performances but it was the 2 Mile squad who laid down the gauntlet for The Minutemen in the first event of the meet. Breaking out the championship "golden broom" the junior trio of Adam Bernstein (9:54.55), Matt McAlarney (9:57.49), and Micah Benson (10:05.33) controlled the race early and grabbed all three podium positions. Along with the sweep, senior Lucas DiCerbo tacked on three more points by finishing sixth in a season best 10:11.25. After the onslaught put on by the LHS "D-Squad," The Minutemen had put 27 points on the board. From there The Minutemen were off to the races and proceeded to march through the rest of the meet facing little resistance along the way. When the smoke from the final starting pistol had cleared they stood tall having scored 169.5 points - over fifty points more than second place Reading. Thursday night was the completion of a sweep of both the Indoor and Outdoor regular and post-season titles for Lexington's boys.
After an up and down regular season Lexington's ladies had without a doubt their strongest all around performance of the season at the League Meet. With 16 personal or season bests coming both on the track and in the field, the girls tallied 84 points to finish fourth to Belmont's 109 points. As was the case for the boys, the girls were lead by a 2 miler. Star junior Danna Ofek had a hand in 20 of The Minutemen's points, and the loan individual title for the girls. First the junior harrier cruised to victory in her open race (11:12.24) before doubling back with fellow classmates Pauline Steines and Lily Sheth, as well as sophomore Lina Jafaar to dominate the 4x800m Relay. The team's time of 9:50.73 won by over 10 seconds.
