WINCHESTER, MA - On a cold and windy Tuesday afternoon The Minutemen opened their spring season against the Sachems of Winchester. The girls squad easily dispatched the Sachems by a score of 83 to 53, while the boys completely dominated Winchester winning by nearly 100 points (116 to 19). En route to victory, the girls were lead by a pair of juniors. Chrisondra Awomah began her day by winning the Shot Put with a Divisional Championships qualifying throw of 33'2". She then followed it up by winning the Discus with a toss of 83'1". Along with Awomah, Danna Ofek got her season off to a strong start by winning the Mile in a personal best time of 5:20.9h. In addition to being a personal best that time qualified her for Divisionals.
On the boys side, senior Kazu Uda-Thach had a stellar day bringing home two victories of his own. First in the Long Jump Uda-Thach leaped a Divisional qualifying distance of 20'11.75", which was nearly two feet ahead of his next closest competitor. He then returned to blow away the field in the 200m, achieving another qualifying mark of 22.4h seconds in the process. In addition to Uda-Thach, junior captain Shymon Samsel won the 110m High Hurdles in a Divisional qualifying time of 15.5h seconds. Samsel also picked up a second place finish in the Triple Jump with a personal best leap of 38'0". Not to be outdone by the upperclassmen, freshmen Evan Eberle had a strong day of his own. He began his day by earning his first career high school victory by leaping 5'6" to win the High Jump. As an encore, Eberle came back to run a huge personal best in the 800m (2:05.2h) picking up his second career win in the process. Finally, he ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400m relay that won in a time of 3:43.8h.

This Saturday, April 6th Junior Michael Gupta and other members of the Lexington High School Track & Field team will be heading down to Providence to compete in the Hammer Throw at the 51st Annual Knights of Columbus Relays. The meet is set to get underway at 9:00am.

Other Highlights for the Girls
- Junior Keena Gao picked up two wins on the day. First winning the Long Jump in 15'11.75", then taking the 100m Dash in 13.3h seconds.
- In her first time competing in the event freshmen Anna Yang won the Triple Jump in 28'11". Fellow first time participant Rachel Pearlman was second in 27'4".
- Rachel Caldwell-Glixon went Triple gold by winning the 100m High Hurdles (16.2h seconds), the High Jump (4'8"), and the 200m Dash (27.6h seconds).
- Winning by .3 seconds, sophomore Aylin Bruce (1:06.1h) held off a hard charging Winchester runner in the final strides of the 400m Dash. Freshman Fiona Breen was third in 1:07.0h.
- The 800m saw junior captain Lily Sheth win in a personal best and Middlesex League Championship qualifying time of 2:26.7h. Sophomore Lina Jafaar was third in 2:30.7h.
- Senior captain Kesinia Sortor won the 2 Mile 12:19.7h.
- In the Mile, junior Pauline Steines picked up second place in League qualifying time of 5:28.5h.
- The 4x400m relay of Jafaar, Steines, Breen, and Steines won in a time of 4:19.2h.
Other Highlights for the Boys
- Junior Liam Cotter won the 400m Intermediate Hurdles in 1:00.3h then followed that up with a second place finish in the 110m Hurdles (16.4h).
- The golden broom was brought out in the 100m Dash as junior Sal Jaramillo (11.4h seconds), senior Alex Hiser (11.6h seconds), and senior captain Matt Pusatere (11.9h seconds) swept the event.
- Another sweep came in the Discus where Jaret Dlugy (107'6"), Aiden Fieleke (104'0"), and Michael Gupta (102'7") did the honors.
- In the Shot Put, Yanni Zavaliagkos (42'6.75") and Gupta (41'9.75") took first and second.
- After placing second in the 400m Hurdles (1:03.8h), junior Josh Backert came back to win the 400m Dash in 54.0h seconds.
- Senior Eli Gappelberg (2:05.7h) and sophomore Maxim Slobodchikov (2:06.2h) combined with Eberle to complete the sweep of the 800m. Both qualified for the League Championships along with Eberle.
- In the Mile LHS's top 4 runners qualified for the League Meet. Juniors Micah Benson (4:34.7h), Adam Bernstein (4:41.2h), and Selvin Backert (4:45.4h) were followed by senior Lucas DiCerbo (4:46.9h).
- Completing the middle and distance sweep was the 2 Mile squad, with each athlete qualifying for the League Meet. Junior Matt McAlarney won in 10:12.4h, sophomore Max DiCerbo was second in 10:27.6h, and junior Seth Cutler was third 10:34.9h.
- Junior Brian Her was second in the 200m Dash in 24.0h seconds.
