LEXINGTON, MA - On Tuesday afternoon The Minutemen faced off against the Reading Rockets. In what ended up being a tightly contested meet, the Boys prevailed by a score of 77-56. Unfortunately the Girls dropped their meet by a score of 38-98. Despite the loss the Girls had many strong performances to boast. Junior sprinter Candela de Amorrortu picked up second place in the 100 meter dash in a Division 1 Championships qualifying time of 13.00 seconds. Not to be outdone, senior thrower Joan Sullivan continued her strong season by throwing a Division 1 qualifying mark of 93'4", which also placed her second.
While the Boys team had strong performances across the meet, simply put, The Minutemen ran Reading right off the track. The Boys won every race (the 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay included) except for one. That being said going into the relays the meet was still in doubt, with The Minutemen still needing to win one of the two in order to seal the victory. In the end the 4x100 meter team of sophomores Colin Breen and Brian Her, as well as seniors Lucas Honohan and Cameron Hofland ended the drama by crossing the line in 44.40 seconds to easily seal the victory for Lexington. Another highlight of the afternoon was turned in by sophomore Adam Bernstein in the 2 Mile. In the final race before the relays, and needing a victory to keep the pressure on Reading, Bernstein found another gear in the second half of his race. After opening his first mile in 5:09, he was able to out dual Reading junior Andrew Riffe, closing his final 800m unofficially in 2:21 for a personal best time of 10:09.00.
