WESTON, MA - In a meet that featured some much of the top talent that Massachusetts has to offer, The Minutemen came up big in events competed at both Regis College and Weston High School. At Weston High School, Indoor All-Americans junior Kazu Uda-Thach and senior Lucas Honohan made their presence known in the 200 meter dash. After qualifying with the first and fifth fastest times in the prelims, the boys stepped their game up big time in the finals. Uda-Thach burst out of the blocks and put the race away early with a winning and personal best time of 22.29 seconds. Honohan used a strong finish in the final 50 meters of the race to close within two-tenths of a second of his teammate, finishing second with a personal best 22.43 seconds. The Girls top finisher on the evening was sophomore Lily Sheth in the 400 meter dash. After finishing the 200 meter dash in 28.16 seconds earlier in the meet, Sheth was able to come back with an impressive personal best of 1:01.93, placing 8th in her primary event. Her time was just tenths of a second off of the Division 1 Championships qualifying standard. Senior Joan Sullivan continued to build on her strong season by throwing a personal best 30'6" in the Shot Put, finishing 13th. She followed that up with a 16th place finish in the Discus (88'4").
The race of the night came in the Boys Sprint Medley Relay (200,200,400,800), which featured The Minutemen's All-American team of Uda-Thach, senior Cameron Hofland, Honohan, and senior Thomas Lingard. Uda-Thach lead off with a very strong opening 200 meters, and Hofland got the baton around the track to Honohan in the lead. Honohan then followed up his performance in the 200 meter dash by running an unofficial 49.9 second split in his 400 meter leg, handing off to Lingard in the lead. Lingard, who was coming off a win in the 800 meters earlier in the night, was eventually passed on the home stretch by Belmont senior, and 600 meter State Champion, Calvin Perkins (unofficial 1:53 split). However, in the final meters of the race Lingard made one final charge and with a huge lean it appeared that he had nipped Perkins at the line. Unfortunately his efforts would come up short as The Minutemen were edged by two-hundredths of a second. Both teams were well under the 3:35.00 National Championship qualifying standards of 3:35.00, with Belmont finishing in 3:32.79 and The Minutemen in 3:32.81.
