WINCHESTER, MA - The Minutemen had their first Liberty Division test in the Middlesex League on Wednesday, when they traveled to face the Sachems. On the Girls side, it was a tightly fought race as Winchester's Girls are a strong group especially on their three-mile home course. The Sachems' Ella Aldrich won the race in a time of 19:27. After Aldrich, Lexington and Winchester traded the next seven places. With each team having finished four of the necessary five runners, The Minutemen's depth came through in a big way. Sophomore Lina Jafarr sealed the win by placing ninth in a time of 21:14, but following her were fellow sophomores Isabel Jakimczyk (21:16) and Zoe Gu (21:17) who came in tenth and 11th respectively. Junior Maude Hajjaj was also able to come through for The Minutemen finishing 12th, just ahead of the Sachems' fifth runner, in a time of 21:22. These ladies' strong efforts propelled the Girls to their first Middlesex League win of the year by a score of 26 to 31.
The Boys, who were coming off a dominating performance the previous weekend, had the opportunity to rest some of their top runners which gave some new faces a chance to make their mark on the varsity team. They did not disappoint. While Winchester's William Coakley took the race in 16:44, The Minutemen took places 2-14 en route to a 20-43 victory. Some of those new faces included senior Reed Warburton, who followed up a good race at Ocean State with an eighth place finish in a time of 17:11. Junior Jack Stevens came through in tenth place with a time of 17:49. And while technically there was no varsity and junior varsity race, because all the runners went off at the same time, junior Jack McGaraghan was the final designated varsity runner for The Minutemen, placing 11th with a time of 17:49.
Up Next
The Minutemen are back home on Tuesday October 2nd, when they will face Belmont. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 3:45pm.
