THE MINUTEMEN OPEN THEIR SEASON WITH A "W" AGAINST BELMONT
Meet Information
Belmont Dual Meet
October 10, 2020
Hastings Park - Lexington, MA
RESULTS: A-RACE
RESULTS: B-RACE
LEXINGTON, MA - After the girls had their shot at Belmont the previous weekend, this past Saturday it was the boys' turn to run the modified Lexington 5k home course. In the end the Marauders were no match for The Minutemen, as LHS's varsity boys grabbed 7 of the top 10 place en route to a 19-40 victory. Again a huge thank you to all those who made it possible for the boys to race including the Athletic Director, coaches, LPD, DPW, and of course the kids for spiking up, masking up, and running their hearts out.

This past Saturday, the Lexington boys laced up for their first meet in a super duper long time. However, that is not to say that these boys were not ready to race again. In fact, my Strava feed has led me to believe this is the most prepared many of them have ever been going into a season. Needless to say, the limited fans who had VIP access and were actually allowed to witness the meet were very excited to see how things would go down this fateful morning.
Cresting the “hill” that is a small precursor to the lovely Baskin, Lexington’s wave one looked very strong traveling as a pack and continued to look strong on their way up Mount Loring. Unfortunately, they all forgot their hiking poles to assist them in their ascent up the Mountain, but this did not deter any of them from completing the treacherous journey. Whilst we are on the topic of good ol’ Loring, I would like to point out that volunteer Course Director (a job harder than it may seem) Lauren Sterne managed to guide the entire field to only a single ascent up the mountain. Anyway, back to the race, waves two and three looked very strong as well and super speedy. There were some notable performances including junior Noah Quadri who was first across the finish line from wave, taking the race by over 20 seconds in 17:49. Senior Dimitri Konotos (18:26) was another standout, and junior Till Steines was a whole new man on the course last Saturday, running a very respectable time of 19:52.
In the end, the Lexington boys took home the victory as senior captain Max “it’s all mental” DiCerbo was first to cross the socially distanced finish line in a pretty quick 16:44. Next to finish was Belmont junior Trevor Smith (16:50), which took me a long time to figure out that this was not Lexington’s own junior Traver Smith, just his long lost twin who lives in Belmont. Soon after a stampede of Lexington runners finished strong, including junior Graham Bracken (17:17), senior captain Maxim Slobodchikov (17:25), senior captain Nate Croke (17:31), and junior Evan Eberle (17:36) helping Lexington secure the win.
The Lexington boys showed their true depth when every single kid in the first and second wave ran a faster time than Belmont’s seventh finisher which is insane if you ask me! My Strava feed did not deceive me, these boys have trained very hard over the summer, and I am very excited to get to see them put down some more immaculate times.
