LEXINGTON, MA - Tuesday, The Minutemen were back home again Belmont. After two hard fought victories last week against Winchester, LHS was looking forward to building on their success. They did just that as the boys came through with a 23-33 victory, while the girls trounced Belmont by putting up a perfect score of 15-50. In fact, the Lex Girls had all 10 of their varsity runners come in before a single Belmont athlete in the victory. With the two wins, both teams moved to 3-0 in the regular season.
As they have been all season, the girls were led by the dynamic duo of junior Mirra Payson and senior captain Clara Fu. Payson took the tape on Tuesday with a time of 19:49, followed closely behind by Fu, who finished in 19:55. Next across the line for the girls was junior Uma Sanker in a time of 21:21. Placing fourth for The Minutemen was freshman Mireri Saneyoshi (21:36), who was the first of the rising stars club to finish on Tuesday. Fellow classmates Brett Castro (21:47) and Caire Cunningham (22:07) followed Saneyoshi's tiny footsteps over nearly the entire course to place fifth and sixth respectively. Special shoutout to senior captain Casey Weisberg who's seventh place finish in a time of 22:12 sealed the shoutout for the Lex Girls.
On the boys side, the result was similar to last week's effort against Winchester. Senior captain Evan Eberle ran at the front until the final stretch of the race, where he unleashed a ferocious kick that won him the race in a new home course PR of 16:42. Eberle was followed by fellow classmate and captain Ollie DiCerbo, who's time of 16:50 was marked the first time he dipped under 17 minutes for 5k. Speaking of rising stars, sophomore Glenn Burscu was third for The Minutemen and fifth overall with a new personal best time of 17:22. Then came the one-two punch of juniors Antonio Lopez (17:39) and Aidan McPhee (17:42) who's seventh and eight place finishes overall sealed the victory for LHS.
Up Next
The Minutemen will next travel to Arlington to face off against the Spy Ponders. The meet will be held at McClennen Park, as the Arlington Reservoir is under construction currently. The race is scheduled to go off right at 4:30pm.
