Meet Information
60th Annual Catholic Memorial Invitational
October 16, 2021
Franklin Park - Boston, MA
RESULTS
BOSTON, MA - Saturday The Minutemen returned to Franklin Park after a two year hiatus. The site of the 1992 IAAF World Cross Country Championships still stands as the signature 5k cross country course in the Bay State, and the 60th installment of the Catholic Memorial Invitational offered athletes a final invitational to test their fitness ahead of championship season. The Minutemen did that and more taking home multiple team titles.
Highlights from the Varsity Races:
While there were seven teams in the boys race, it turned out to be a battle between The Minutemen and the Long Red Line of Pinkerton Academy (NH). Pinkerton's Luke Brennan fired the first shot by taking the race with a time of 16:44.2. LHS struck back with senior captain Graham Bracken placing third in 17:20.2. Pinkerton's Ethan Charles then came across in fourth place. However, from there The Minutemen poured it on. Evan Eberle sprinted his way down the homestretch to a time of 17:33.8 and a fifth place finish. He was followed right behind by Thomas Lane's sixth place finish with a time of 17:36.1. Ollie DiCerbo (17:57.0) was next across the line in 12th place overall. Shortly after DiCerbo, Pinkerton's fourth runner came across the line, which meant that the meet would come down to the all important fifth man. For The Minutemen that turned out to be Aidan McPhee. The junior harrier battled through a tough race, and sprinted to the line to place 23rd overall and sealed the team title for The Minutemen with a time of 18:35.0.
The Lex Girls were without a number of their top girls on Saturday, but still there were a number of solid performances turned in. As she has done nearly all season, Clara Fu led the way for The Minutemen. The senior captain placed sixth overall with a time of 20:32.2. Fellow classmate and captain Camelia Atassi traversed the challenging course in 23:30.3 to finish 28th. Dora Liao battled her way to a time of 23:43.1, crossing the line in 31st place.
Highlights from the Freshmen Races:
In the boys race Max Zhang led the way for the freshmen, as he has done all season. Zhang's time of 11:14.5 was good enough for a 10th place finish overall. Next across the line for The Minutemen was Nathan Cunningham (11:38.4), who placed 13th. Graham Schrodel was third for LHS - 17th overall - in a time of 11:55.6. Zach Barry turned in a time of 12:20.2 to finish 24th, while Cormac Dowgert turned in a massive 3k PR of nearly a minute with a time of 12:26.3. LHS's final finisher on the day was Alejandro Castro. His time of 12:36.8 was good enough for 29th overall.
Despite dealing with a major case of the pre-race jitters, freshman Claire Cunningham turned in perhaps her best high school performance to date on Saturday. Cunningham got out hard over the 3k course and continued to push the pace all the way to the finish, leading her team by placing fourth overall in a time of 13:14.3. Next across the line for The Minutemen was Brett Castro who placed sixth with a time of 13:26.4. Rounding out LHS's top 10 finishers was Mirei Saneyoshi, who's time of 14:03.3 was enough for ninth place. Tanvi Samavedam (14:16.4) and Leontine Meunier (14:16.8) placed 13th and 14th respectively to seal the victory for the Lex Girls. Along with the top five, Asha Banerji turned in a 17th place finish in a time of 14:54.7.
