THE MINUTEMEN CLOSE OUT THE 2021 SEASON AT NXR
Meet Information
Nike Cross Regionals Northeast
November 27, 2021
Bowdoin Park - Wappingers Falls, NY
RESULTS
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - Due to COVID restrictions the Nike Cross Nationals was cancelled this year. However, the Regional meets were a full go, which gave The Minutemen one final chance to toe the line this season. Six individuals - 2 boys, 4 girls - from the team traveled to the Nike Cross Regional meet to compete against some of the top prep talent in New England as well as New Jersey and Pennsylvania in both the Boys and Girls the Open Division as "Lexington Elite TC." While LHS did not factor in the team scoring, in the Girls Open Race the team of Northern Valley-Old Tappan High School (NJ) who competed as the 1979 "XC Club" took home the overall title by scoring 45 points. The Garden State also brought home the Boys Open Race crown, with Southern Regional High School (NJ) taking the victory with 56 points.
The Lex Girls were up first and were led by Uma Sanker from the moment the gun was fired. The harrier charged out to the lead pack and battled through the challenging first half of the hilly course. Once she crested the hill at the halfway mark, Sanker began to move up through the field and carried that momentum to a 13th place finish overall with a time of 21:50.2. Behind Sanker was fellow classmate Jasmine Sun (22:31.1) who polished off a breakout junior season on the trails with a 27th place finish. Continuing to prove that the future is indeed bright for The Minutemen, the freshmen duo of Brett Castro (23:16.9) and Claire Cunningham (23:19.1) finished 44th and 45th respectively, and were 10th and 11th among freshmen.
After qualifying for Regionals as a sophomore, senior Thomas Lane was back one final time to Bowdoin Park and put on a stellar performance in his final LHS XC race. Despite his patented slow start, Lane calmly moved up through the field during the first half of the race and continued to passed runners as he navigated the difficult descent down the course. In the end, Lane placed 17th overall in a time of 18:04.9. Along with Lane, junior Antonio Lopez finished 37th overall with a time of 18:37.5.
Up Next
