READING, MA - After a nor'easter twice postponed the final dual meet of the Regular Season, The Minutemen finally got to travel to Reading to face off against the Rockets on Thursday afternoon. With the Middlesex League Championships slated for this Monday, The Minutemen rested a number of their top runners for this meet. That gave the opportunity for the next group of Lex boys and girls a chance to shine in the spotlight. They did just that as the girls grinded out a nail-biting 28-29 victory. While the boys fell 44-15, but turned in over a dozen personal bests in the process.

Long time no see! This past Tuesday– no, Wednesday– no sorry, Thursday, The Minutemen headed to Reading for their last dual meet of the season!
Strong performances on the girls team, and several new personal bests, led the girls to win by just 1 point against Reading’s impressive squad. Pulling through in a much-needed position was the leader of the Lexington varsity girls, Mirra Payson (20:19). Not only was she able to help us secure the win, but Mirra also managed to pose for the girls cheering squad every time she passed them. Should she call Sports Illustrated? Should they call her? Who's to decide. Another notable performance came from freshman Claire Cunningham who PRed by over thirty seconds with an impressive time of 21:36. Maybe she finally ate her pesto pasta? Another massive PR came from Junior Sarah Lane who crossed the line in 22 minutes flat, which we suspect was probably thanks to those magnesium-packed Brazilian nuts she’s always raving about.
Leading on the JV side was sophomore Talia Alperin (23:08), who turned in with her best performance of the season. Bringing in another season PR was Lexington’s own Chloe Pacheco-Bloch (23:10). Two more impressive PRs (seeing a trend here?) came were from junior Jillian “Slay” Stevens (25:38) who ran over a minute faster than her previous PR, and sophomore Cindy Lee with a time of 27:47.
Now onto the boys! With the Middlesex League Championships on the horizon this Monday, The Minutemen’s top-five boys were all rested in preparation. That left the next 10 members of the boys squad to battle it out for the final two varsity slots on Monday. Senior captain Noah Quadri (17:21) was first across the line for The Minutemen securing his spot on Monday. Coming in just seconds later to grab the seventh and final varsity spot, with a time of 17:23 was and junior Aidan ‘Quick”Phee (see what we did there?) who got that time just so it could rhyme. Also bringing in a PR and breaking the elusive 18 minute barrier for the first time was junior Kyle Taylor with a time of 17:57. It’s so great that “Runner on the Course” author Ashley Taylor can hype up her own twin brother and give him a shoutout. Also breaking the elusive 18 minute barrier and tying Kyle’s time was sophomore Joey “Candy Man” Ryan.
In the JV race, sophomore Duncan Maloney really turned on the jets for an his impressive finish. Maloney set a new PR with a time of 21:35, proving to the rest of us that America really does run on Duncan. The Weir brothers also brought in some of their best performances this season with 23:48 and 24:38. Rounding out the pack was the resilient Dylan Yuyun who turned in a strong effort to finish in 27:47. Great job boys!
See you Monday for League Championships! Good luck, Lex Go, and in the immortal words of Ashley Taylor, “Yo yo yo, we passin’”.
