RECORD TIMES AND WARM WEATHER HIGHLIGHT THE 14TH ALUMNI RACE
Meet Information
14th Annual Lexington 5k "Alumni Race"
November 25, 2022
Lincoln Field - Lexington, MA
RESULTS
LEXINGTON, MA - "Just as brutal as it was 20 years ago." That was the description given by an alum who just crossed the finish line at Lexington High School's home course on Friday at the 14th Annual Lexington 5k "Alumni Race." It is in fact a special group of runners who come out each year the morning after Thanksgiving to run up Baskin and Loring. They know the challenge those hills present. And yet, since 2008 they have willingly come out to support the LHS XC program by giving their best on the toughest hills in the Middlesex League.
What was different about this year's race from prior installments was unseasonably warm weather, which helped spur on blazing fast times. Reza Eshghi from Lincoln, MA won the race going away with a time of 16:32. That mark shattered the previous race record set in 2016 by LHS Class of 2010 alum Lance Claflin. Eshghi's efforts were even more impressive, as Claflin was second across the line on Friday with a time of 17:14. Claflin still holds the record for fastest performance by an LHS alum. On the women's side it was Sophie Young of Old Windsor, UK who took the title with a race record of her own. Her time of 21:58 bested Amy McGaraghan's time of 22:13 from 2016. In the women's alumni division, it was LHS Class of 1987's Allie Lawler winning the day with a time of 25:30.
The LHS Cross Country program would like to offer a hardy thanks to an even more hardy group of runners and supporters who came out on Friday morning. This annual tradition is always one of the highlights of each year, and it could not happen without you. We hope to see you all next year!
