THE MINUTEMEN OPEN UP LIBERTY DIVISION ACTION AGAINST BELMONT

Meet Information
Belmont Dual Meet
September 27, 2022
Rocky Meadow - Belmont, MA
RESULTS
BELMONT, MA - After a strong weekend in Rhode Island at the Ocean State Invitational, The Minutemen were back in the Bay State for their first Liberty Division Dual Meet of the Middlesex League Season. With Belmont High School being under construction for the last two years, the Marauders Cross Country team needed to find a new course to call home. It appears they have in fact found it, as the roughly thee-mile loops course around Rocky Meadow provided challenging terrain and great a spectator experience for those in attendance. After their efforts at Ocean State, the Boys rested their top runners, giving the next wave of athletes the chance to get a taste of varsity competition against the best the Marauders had to offer. The Minutemen put up a strong effort but fell by a score of 31-25. On the Girls side, LHS took the top four spots on their way to a victory by a score of 17-44. With that, the Lex Girls now sit at 2-0 on the young season.
The Boys race was decided - as all dual meets are - when Belmont took the top three spots, making it mathematically impossible for LHS to comeback despite taking six of the next seven spots. For The Minutemen it was senior Aviv Spitz who led the way in only his second career race on the trails. Spitz placed fourth with a time of 17:33. He led a tight pack that included senior captain Ian Miller who crossed the line in 17:35, sophomore Alistair Rezvani (17:37), and senior Jinn Janpathompong (17:40). It was senior Jackson Monks who crossed the line in 17:57 who was The Minutemen's final scorer. Freshman Will Parker was next for LHS in a time of 18:15, followed closely by fellow classmate Sam Finch (18:17). Another ninth grader, Colin Smith (18:29) came across the line before sophomore Zach Barry (18:30) and senior Kyle Taylor (18:44) rounded out the top-10.
In the Girls race, it was team captain Mirra Payson who took the race from the gun and never relinquished control. The talented senior won going away with a time of 19:38. Next across the line for the Lex Girls was fellow classmate and captain Uma Sanker (20:04). Sanker was followed by the one-two punch of senior Jasmine Sun and junior Dora Liao who finished in 20:41 and 20:47 respectively. After a challenging day in Rhode Island, Maya Dubrovsky found her form in Belmont. The junior was The Minutemen's all important fifth place finisher with a time of 20:58. Finishing close behind was sophomore Claire Cunningham with a time of 21:03. Despite taking a wrong turn on the course the next group of LHS athletes still managed strong overall times. That group included sophomores Tanvi Samavedam (21:47) and Mirei Saneyoshi (21:48), as well as senior Ashley Taylor (22:58) and senior captain Sarah Fu (23:04) who was the final varsity finisher for LHS.
Up Next
On Thursday, October 6th The Minutemen will return home to face off against the Arlington Spy Ponders in what has become an annual clash of the class of the Liberty Division. When the Spy Ponders arrive in Lexington, Loring Hill and the rest of The Minutemen's historic 5k course - that winds its way through the neighborhood surrounding LHS - will have laid dormant for 352 days since the last meet was held there in the 2021 XC Season. Which means the course, and the teams will be in fine shape for what should be a classic dual with bragging rights on the line. The meet, which starts at Lincoln Field, is set to begin at 4:30pm.
