Maudslay State Park - Newburyport, MA
RESULTS
NEWBURYPORT, MA - On Saturday The Minutemen made their annual pilgrimage to Newburyport for what has become the signature kickoff to the Lex XC Season. Clipper Relays features a field of schools broken up into three-person relays, with each leg running the same two mile loop - the third leg being slightly longer than the others - through the woods of Maudslay State Park. It is a test of both high end talent and depth for the teams that compete, and often foreshadows the teams who will be vying for the State Title come November. On the Girls side, the 2021 Champs from Pentucket won the day again with a combined time of 37:02. The Lex Girls finished fifth overall with their top team running 38:56, but LHS was the only school to put two teams in the top-10, with their 'B' Team finishing 10th in a time of 39:54. For the Boys, it was another repeat championship performance as St. John's Prep won with a time of 29:58. For their part, The Minutemen turned in a tenth place finish with a time of 31:53.
Senior captain Mirra Payson led the way for the Lex Girls, anchoring the 'A' Team with the fastest time run by an LHS female on the day (12:30), after her relaymates - senior captain Uma Sanker (13:09) and senior Jasmine Sun (13:01) - got the team off to a strong start. The breakout star of the day had to be freshman Nadia Abdinoor. Running on The Minutemen's 'C' Team, the young harrier blazed around the trails of Maudslay to anchor her team with an adjusted split of 12:49. That time was second only to Payson's effort. Junior Dora Liao had a strong day of her own, running the fourth fastest time for the Lex Girls (13:01). Along with the top five, junior Maya Dubrovsky (13:15), sophomore Brett Castro (13:19), freshman Sophie Johnson (13:20), senior Serena Caira (13:27) and freshman Thayer DiCerbo (13:27) rounded out the top-10 for LHS.
The Boys were led by the trio of sophomore Max Zhang (10:31), senior captain Aidan McPhee (10:42), and the only returner from last's years squad that placed third, senior captain Antonio Lopez. His adjusted split of 10:29 was the fastest on the day for The Minutemen. Along with the top team, junior Joey "Candy Man" Ryan turned in a breakout performance of his own. Running on the 'B' Team, Ryan blasted through his two mile leg in a time of 10:47, which was fourth fastest on the team. Another big day came from junior captain Toshio Yuki. His adjusted split of 11:04 was the fifth fastest overall for The Minutemen. Rounding out the top-10 finishers for The Minutemen was sophomore Nathan Cunningham (11:14), senior Jinn Janpathompong (11:14), senior captain Ian Miller (11:17), freshman Colin Smith (11:18), and fellow freshman Sam Finch (11:33).
