Meet Information
Woburn Dual Meet
October 11, 2022
Horn Pond - Woburn, MA
RESULTS
WOBURN, MA - For the first time since the fall of 2019, The Minutemen returned to the Woburn side of Horn Pond to face off against the Tanners. Over the years these teams have had a number of classic battles, with each team getting the best of the other on numerous occasions. While this year's installment of the meet did not have the drama of undefeated streaks or championship stakes on the line, there were still plenty of strong performances across the board. In the end The Minutemen came away with a pair of victories. LHS took home their first dual meet win of the season by a score of 20-39. While the Lex Girls bested the Tanners by a score of 19-42.
The Minutemen's top 6 boys got their first taste of Middlesex League action on Tuesday, and certainly made a statement that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. Woburn senior Joe Mahon won the race by a wide margin, crossing the line in 15:30.4. For Mahon, that performance ranks him #2 all-time in WHS history on their historic home course. After him, it was a parade of Minutemen that marched through across the line. Junior Glenn Burcsu ran 16:00.7 to place second. Senior captains Antonio Lopez (16:28.4) and Aidan McPhee (16:43.6) were three-four. Joey "Candy Man" Ryan was next for LHS, finishing fifth in a time of 16:49.9. And it was sophomore Max Zhang who was the fifth and final scorer for The Minutemen. His time of 16:50.5 placed sixth overall. Fellow classmate Nathan Cunningham used his signature fast finish to cross the line in 17:10.7, and he was followed closely by senior Aviv Spitz (17:14.5). The freshmen trio of Will Parker (17:44.8), Owen Kuder (18:24.1), and Colin Smith (18:41.8) were the final three varsity runners to cross the line for LHS.
Continuing her run of dominance in the Middlesex League, superstar senior Ava Criniti won the Girls Race going away. After taking back the LHS home course record from a former Woburn great last week, this week she bested WHS Class of 2015 great Gina D'Addario's course school record time of 17:52. Criniti crossed the line - after making a wrong turn in the final half mile of the race - in 17:47. After Criniti, senior captain Uma Sanker had by far her best race of the season. Sanker's time of 19:04 placed her second overall. Fellow classmate and captain Mirra Payson was next in 19:28. Senior Jasmine sun ran 20:21 to place fifth overall. Turning in perhaps her best race since she last graced the Woburn course in 2019, senior Ashley Taylor ran 20:43 to finish fifth for the Lex Girls (seventh overall). Next for LHS was sophomore Mirei Saneyoshi (20:48), freshman Thayer DiCerbo (20:54) and junior Maya Dubrovsky (20:59). Rounding out the top-10 for the Lex Girls was sophomore Brett Castro who finished in 21:19. Then it was senior Serena Caira (21:25), and sophomore Tanvi Samavedam (21:30) who placed 13th and 14th respectively.
Up Next
The Minutemen will return home next Tuesday, October 18th to face archrival Reading. LHS's Boys were bested by the Rockets in their dual meet last fall, but The Minutemen exacted their revenge at the Middlesex League Championships, edging Reading by three points. On the Girls side, it should be another classic dual. The meet is set to begin at Lincoln Field at 4:30pm.
