THE MINUTEMEN CELEBRATE SENIOR DAY WITH A PAIR OF VICTORIES OVER THE TANNERS
Meet Information
Woburn Dual Meet
October 3, 2023
Lincoln Field - Lexington, MA
RESULTS
LEXINGTON, MA - The Minutemen returned home for the final time this Cross Country Season to face off against the Tanners of Woburn. For the Class of 2024, the meet offered the first of the many "lasts" they will experience at Lexington High School throughout the 2023-2024 school year. With that in mind, it was fitting that The Minutemen left Senior Day with a win in both the boys' and girls' races, as the Tanners simply proved to be no match for LHS. The Lex Girls won handily by a score of 21-40, with LHS's boys took home the win 23-36.
Woburn junior Sinead Butler has proven herself to be the class of the Middlesex League throughout the season. Undefeated in dual meets, which included a convincing victory over Arlington's Elise Kempf two weeks ago, Butler was unquestionably the toughest individual test the Lex Girls have faced in League competition. All that being said, LHS was clearly unphased by her resume when the gun went off on Tuesday. Sophomore Sophie "Snacks" Johnson and freshman Callie Glenn went right to the lead, and took the top pack, which included Butler, through the mile in a casual 6:45. Through the second mile Johnson and Glenn, along with senior Samara McVey, senior captain Dora Liao, and sophomore Meghan Caldera managed to hang with Butler. However, in the final mile Butler broke away from McVey and went on to cruise to victory in a time of 20:40. McVey was second for the Lex Girls with a time of 20:46. She was followed by Liao (20:55), Glenn (20:58), and Caldera (20:59). Johnson was the all important fifth runner for The Minutemen. She placed seventh overall with a time of 21:44. Next for LHS was the freshmen duo of Alycia Charest (21:51) and Erin Ehmann (21:56) who placed eighth and ninth respectively. Lucy Kontos had a breakout performance for her team. The junior dropped a huge PR of 22:26 to finish 12th overall. She was followed by fellow classmates Leontine Meunier (22:35) and Tanvi Samavedam (23:06).
The boys were once again led by Joey "The Candy Man" Ryan. LHS's senior captain took his final opportunity to race on the home course and won the race by nearly a minute after he crossed the line in 16:13. That time is the second fastest ever run on the LHS home course, and marks the fastest time ever run by an LHS athlete. Freshman Trevor Stevens ran a tactically sound race to earn second place with a time of 17:10. Next across the line for The Minutemen was junior Nathan Cunningham who placed fifth overall in a time of 17:24. After Woburn junior Jonathan Pereira came through in sixth place, both Woburn and Lexington had placed three runners in the top six. However, from there LHS slammed the door shut on the Tanners, and took the next six places. Junior Zach Barry ran 17:34. Senior Owen Lawler was next in 17:36. Freshman Owen Ross finished ninth overall in a time of 17:52, just ahead of sophomore Sam Finch (17:53). Senior captain Toshio Yuki crossed in 11th place with a time of 18:07. While sophomore Henry Finch came in at 18:23. Senior captain Duncan Maloney (19:48) rounded out the top-10 for The Minutemen with a 16th place finish.
